Cedar Point National Wildlife Refuge Dike Reconstruction

Location: Cedar Point NWR, Lucas County, Ohio
Client: U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Kwest Group performed civil package under subcontract)

Project Description

  • Reconstruction of 5,600 linear feet of wetland dike. Dikes were reconstructed with re-compacted clay salvaged from existing embankments.
  • Supply and installation of 6,500 tons of rip rap on exterior slopes.
  • An access road was constructed on top of new dike utilizing geo-grid reinforcement and crushed aggregate.
  • Area was restored in accordance with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Standards.

Clearwater Preserve Site Development Package

Project Description

  • Ongoing development of 800 acre residential waterside development to include establishing marine access to Sandusky Bay and Lake Erie.
  • Excavation of boating channels connecting two existing quarries and Sandusky Bay. Excavated volume of material in excess of 200,000 cubic yards.
  • In-water excavation of over 20,000 cubic yards of material for two boat entrance channels, each extending 750′ out from shoreline, utilizing barge-mounted excavator. Spoils were loaded onto sectional barges and transported to shore. Material was off-loaded and utilized as embankment within development.
  • Construction of four large aggregate jetty walls, each extending 250′ from shoreline.
  • Installation of 22,000 tons of large aggregate shoreline protection along entire alignment of new boating channels.
  • Restoration/reconstruction of 54 acre wetland in conjunction with Ohio Department of Natural Resources

Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge

Location: Oak Harbor, OH
Client: Clearwater Preserve

Project Description

  • Construction / restoration of wetland areas under multiple contracts.
  • Installation of multiple water control structures.
  • Clay dike construction at multiple areas of refuge including Pool 9 and Schneider Marsh.
  • Seeding of completed dikes with native prairie grasses indigenous to the region.
  • All projects were completed on-budget and within schedule, while balancing the demands of working in highly-sensitive environmental areas.

Mary Jane Thurston State Park Marina Rehabilitation

Location: Grand Rapids, OH
Client: Ohio Department of Natural Resources

Project Description

  • Reconstruction of existing marina at Ohio State Park Facility located on the Maumee River in Henry County, Ohio.
  • Installation of 10-ft. high x 300-ft. long Aquadam Cofferdam System to isolate marina basin from Maumee River flow.
  • Systematic initial and maintenance pumping of the existing three acre marina basin.
  • Sediment filtration/removal system was required to prevent sediment from being discharged into main river channel from pumping operations.
  • Fish in existing basin were netted and released into main river channel.
  • Removal of sediment from marina basin.
  • Installation of 450 total linear feet of 12-in.” steel pipe piling for docks into underlying bedrock. Construction of temporary aggregate haul roads were required to allow drilling equipment to access site due to excessive sediment within basin.
  • Removal/reconstruction of concrete launching ramp.
  • Installation of 7,400 square foot dock system.

Ducks Unlimited Pickerel Creek Wetland Construction/Enhancement Projects

Location: Fremont, OH

Project Description

  • Wetland dike and “pothole” construction at three separate areas of ODNR Pickerel Creek Wildlife Area located in Sandusky County, Ohio under single contract with Ducks Unlimited
  • Project required installation of 7 water control structures and a large quantity of grassed waterway construction.
  • Project required close coordination with federal and state agencies due to the sensitive environmental areas in which the work was performed.

Ducks Unlimited Dillon and Horvat Marsh Enhancement Projects

Location: Trumbull County, OH
Client: Ducks Unlimited

Project Description

  • Construction of wetland dikes and installation of water control structures at ODNR Grand River and Mosquito Creek Wildlife Areas located in Trumbull County, Ohio.
  • Project was completed in close coordination with both Duck Unlimited and Ohio Department of Natural Resources Personnel.

East Harbor State Park Sanitary System Improvements

Location: Port Clinton, OH

Project Description

  • Complete sanitary system upgrade at Ohio State Park Campground Facility.
  • Installation of 1,900-ft. of sanitary sewer conduit directly adjacent to Lake Erie Shoreline. Constant dewatering of work area was required.
  • Installation of new sanitary pumping station and rehabilitation/reconstruction of two existing sanitary pumping stations.
  • Construction of asphalt dump station roadway with concrete island, containing connections for the disposal of sanitary sewage from campers.
  • Project was completed in sensitive lakeside environmental areas.
  • Project completed / restored in a manner which limited disruptions to facility usage by guests.

Findley State Park Sanitary Sewer System Improvements

Location: Wellington, OH
Client: Ohio Department of Natural Resources

Project Description

  • Sanitary system improvements at Ohio State Park Campground Facility.
  • Demolition of existing sanitary structures/appurtenances.
  • Installation of nearly 3,000 linear feet of sanitary conduit, both gravity and force main.
  • Installation of sewage equalization basin pumping station.
  • Construction of asphalt dump station roadway with concrete island containing connections for the disposal of sanitary sewage from campers.
  • Project completed/restored in a manner which limited disruptions to facility usage by guests.
