Nortonville Siding


Location: Nortonville, KY

 

Project Description

  • The siding extension was built while keeping the existing siding active and minimizing the impact to rail business conducted by CSX on the adjacent mainline track
  • Approximately 50,000 cubic yards of rock and soil were excavated and exported to a local landfill with proper environmental documentation and tracking
  • The project site was two miles long, which when connected to the existing track created a new siding, totaling approximately three miles in length
  • Two solider pile and concrete lagging walls were constructed to help retain embankment under existing county bridges
  • 24” diameter pipe piles were driven for the construction of a new railroad bridge
  • Approximately 11,000 tons of shot rock were imported to help stabilize existing ground conditions
  • 13,000 tons of dense graded aggregate were placed on the embankment as a roadbed for the proposed track
  • The project involved over 4 acres of restoration of track side slopes to help stabilize the embankment
