Quantico Siding
Location: Quantico, VA
Project Description
- The retaining wall and embankments were built while keeping the existing mainlines active and minimizing the impact to rail business conducted by CSX and Virginia Railway Express
- The purpose of the work was to make room for a future track installation
- Approximately 560 feet of sheet piling was driven to help retain the embankment for future track construction
- Concrete walls were poured where existing culverts passed underneath the railroad tracks
- Two wing walls were constructed around a ten-foot diameter culvert to help keep the waterway clean of debris and runoff
- Concrete forming design for walls and pile caps were designed in house by Kwest Group
- 4,000 tons of dense graded aggregate were placed on the embankment as a roadbed for the proposed track
- The project involved 1 acre of restoration of track side slopes to help stabilize the embankment
